A friend of mine gave me a Heller (yes, Heller made many, many good models!) Brabham BT33 F1 model and said do something with it! So after a little research I decided to do another scratch-bashed model. Jack's last Indy car was a precursor to his first monocoque F1 car. It was the BT32 and had a close resemblance to the F1 car...
the major difference is the large side tanks which were donated from Heller's McLaren M7A kit (the Mclaren wasn;t going to need them as I was going to make a M10B F5000 car). I puttied them into place and painted the body with the wrong color. I test fit an AMT McLaren Offy engine and it fit very well. I finally found the correct Brabham blue, sprayed the body, again, added the F1 car suspension, and proceeded to add the decals. I also began to fabricate the engine cover from I don't know what!...
I added the outside water line, installed the outside fuel pumps, and painted the engine cover...
The tires are the odd mixture of AMT and MPC hollow tires which fit nicely onto the Heller rims. I glued on the nose piece, added the mirror, detailed the engine and cockpit...
I didn't have any photos of the rear wing, so I made a simple affair until I can do a more accurate model. The turbo arrangement was different than the AMT kit and needed some modification. My favorite addition was the Brabham blue intake horn. Notice the detail decaling on the water line, I feel these types of details are what stands out on a model...
This makes for a good complement model to Jacks's first Indy ride, the Cooper T54 and his first Brabham Indy car. Cheers!
